On the Occasion of Feast of St. Rita on 22nd May '13 at Carona
a tiatr "Guneau Konnacho" by Francis de Tuem was staged.
During the intermission a book containing lyrics of 150 songs by
the late Alfred Rose a son of Lankdem Aldona Compiled by Fr Joaquim
Fernandes, Chaplain of St Rita Chapel was released at hands of Mrs
Juliana, mother of Fr Joaquim. An Alfred song Juliana, to the tune of which
Mrs. Juliana used to do her stitching was played on the occasion.
Singer Lawry Travasso briefly spoke about Alfred and his unique music.
In a private conversation Fr Joaquim said it took him 3 yrs to compile this book
and that he took special permission from Rita Rose to publish it and she even voluntarily
gave lyrics to some songs. Fr. Joaquim recollected how as a teenagers he and his
friends marveled at the songs of Alfred Rose so much so that all sports activity
would briefly come to a halt if an Alfred Rose song was played in the neighborhood radio(AIR etc).
The Book as Fr Joaquim said "is not to make money but to promote
Konkani and the work of a Legend "Alfred Rose" It is priced at Rs 100 only
and a second batch is being printed as the first lot got sold out.
